Johnny Appleseed Day! (Sept. 26th)

By Michelle Conway, Macaroni Kid Chesapeake September 18, 2021

Did you know Johnny Appleseed was a real person?! His real name is John Chapman and he introduced apple trees to our country in the 17th century! Today there are many different varieties of apples from Macintosh to Granny Smith and Honey Crisp to Pink Lady. Apples are a delicious and healthy treat for any time of the day.  I thought I would share some fun activities to do with your kiddos to celebrate this fun day!

~Read the book,Johnny Appleseed! This is a fun story that tells the tale about John Chapman and how he became known as Johnny Appleseed!  You check this book out at your local Chesapeake Libraryor find ithereon Amazon. This book was one of my favorites growing up and I can't wait to share it with my kids!

~Apple tasting! Take a trip to the grocery store and have the kids pick out 3-4 different kinds of apples. When you get back home, with the help an adult, cut each apple into slices and give each child a slice of each kind of apple. Talk to them about how each apple tastes and what each apple looks like. Is the apple more sweet or sour? What color is the apple? Is there more juice in 1 apple than the other?
Then they can try different toppings with their apples like peanutbutter, chocolate, honey, caramel, and yogurt.

~Apple stamping craft! Crafty Morning Blog has a fun and easy apple stamping craft that kids of all ages will enjoy. All you need is a tree printout (found in the blog, I suggest printing on cardstock), a few apples cut in half, 2-3 different colors of paint. Kids color their tree then take the apple slices and dip them into the paint. Then they stamp their apple on their tree to make their own apple tree!
