Find Ways to Recharge!

February 2, 2026

When you think of a mom, do you envision someone who is capable, confident, on time for every event and always “on”? Moms are expected to do it all — and to do it with influencer-level awesomeness! Most of today’s moms carry a full workload with careers, parenting, and even caregiving for older relatives. They are often asked to take on leadership roles at their children’s school and/or within their communities, like coaching a soccer team or leading a Girl Scout troop. The current generation of moms also has social media to contend with, a serious source of pressure to perform that earlier generations didn’t have. All these hats to wear and tasks to complete can easily become overwhelming and must be balanced with rest and play.

Push Pause

If your life were a reality show, how many episodes would you binge before you hit pause? Would you look at the screen and cringe every time your character took on another task? Saying yes is often the right thing to do, the nice thing to do; accepting more responsibilities at work can look great on your resume, offering to help out with your children’s interests can forge better bonds between you and  enrich their lives. But a great new ability to add to your skillset is knowing when you need to push pause. Your own rest, recharge and renewal is not optional. Step back and look at all the roles you fill, realistically, and see what can be delegated to someone else or put on the back burner for later. Then, schedule that saved time just for you.

Press Play

Did someone say girls’ night out?

Research shows that enjoying an occasional evening of play out with friends extends far beyond a mere escape from daily routines. It’s a vital practice for maintaining mental, emotional, and physical health.

According to a study published by the Journal of Health and Social Behavior, socializing can significantly reduce stress levels and improve mental health. When you step out for a girls’ night, you engage in meaningful conversations, laughter, and shared experiences. This camaraderie is not just about having fun — it’s a vital form of emotional nourishment.

Whether it’s a laughter-filled dinner at a favorite restaurant, a movie night, a painting class, or an event to support a special cause, focus on conversation and laughter. The purpose of the night is not to accomplish a task, it’s just to unwind. Opt for activities that are planned for you and easy to participate in. Encourage everyone to minimize phone use, to help you be present in the moment and create a more engaging experience for all.

Doing things that make you feel happy without needing to be productive is critical to ensuring you can be the best, most balanced version of you that you can be for yourself and your family. So, plan that night out with friends! Whether it’s an art class you’ve been wanting to take or attending a fun, low-pressure event (like the upcoming Badge Bash in Chesapeake), push pause on stress and press play on time to relax, rejuvenate and recharge!
