Our Honest Review of H2OBX Waterpark in the Outer Banks

All of the fun of the Outer Banks but without the sand fleas and jellyfish?

My family recently had the chance to visit H2OBX Waterpark in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and I’m so excited to share our honest review.

H2OBX feels like someone bottled the magic of the Outer Banks and sprinkled it all over a waterpark. From the laid-back coastal vibe to the nods to local history, it’s more than just your typical day of splashy fun.

If you’re new to the area, the Outer Banks (or OBX) is a beloved stretch of barrier islands along North Carolina’s coast, known for its beautiful beaches, charming vacation homes, and unique place in American history. Fun fact: the Wright Brothers took their first flight just down the road, and you’ll spot playful tributes to them throughout the park.

What You’ll Find at H2OBX

Like most waterparks, H2OBX offers the classics: thrill rides, tube slides, splash zones, and plenty of spots to grab a bite. But what really sets it apart?

  • It’s spacious. We didn’t feel packed in like sardines, and the longest we waited for any attraction was around 20 minutes.
  • Seating was plentiful. There were tons of lounge chairs available — no need to fight for a spot.
  • The quick-service restaurants had short lines and quick turnaround times all day.

Our Favorite Rides

My kids (ages 8 to 14) each claimed a favorite, and I had mine too.

  • My oldest was obsessed with Paradise Plunge — a 9-story-tall free-fall slide that made my heart skip a beat just watching.
  • My 12-year-old loved Storm Chaser, an inner tube ride with just the right mix of speed and twists.
  • My daughter stuck with the family rides, mostly to hear me scream — mission accomplished.

As for me? I embraced my mom-era and floated peacefully down Teach’s Tides Adventure River, a relaxing lazy river ride that’s perfect for a little “me time.”

Traveling with younger kids? You’ll love Calico Jack’s Cove and Sand Pail Beach, which are perfect for little splashers. There’s even an obstacle course for kids over 3 feet tall. Feeling brave? Try to catch a wave on the Endless Wave FlowRider. And don’t miss Cat-5 Bay Wave Pool — home to the biggest man-made waves on the East Coast!

Final Thoughts

If you haven’t been to H2OBX yet, I definitely recommend adding it to your family’s summer bucket list. It’s perfect for a day trip from Hampton Roads or an unforgettable part of your Outer Banks vacation. We made incredible memories, and I’m already dreaming about going back.
